Spring Break

This is the first time Jace said to me, "Mom look how high I am." He was about 4 feet off the ground.

A little while later, when we stopped for lunch, I was getting food out of the suburban, when I heard a distant cry: "Mom I can't get down." Jace had decided to climb this mountain about 30 feet up and FINALLY got scared. Jace could see me in the parking lot so I yelled to Nate, to run and grab him...since he was closest, just below but underneath some trees. When Nate reached Jace he said with complete relief, "Dad you came and got me." After that the Clayson's and Clarks realized how we have our hands full with Jace!

Our family had a wonderful spring break. Partly because it was the first 'vacation' we were able to take together in over a year, because when Nate switched jobs twice, he lost all of his vacation time. So it was a much needed break for all of us. We first went down to Blanding (about 70 miles south of Moab), and stayed with my sister JoAnna and her family for Easter weekend. My other sisters Aubree, Megan, and Emma (and their families) also came down for the weekend. Blanding always has a wonderful Easter Egg hunt that isn't very crowded, so the kids load up on goodies. Then Monday morning we headed for Moab and met our friends the Clayson's and the Clark's at Arches National Park. What a wonderful day it was. So warm and sunny....we even got a little sun burnt. We spent the whole day looking at the arches and hiking around. Tuesday we took our 4-wheelers out to a place called Castle Valley and went riding all day. It was overcast most of the day, but never rained on us. We also went to slick rock to try out the 4-wheelers on the cool trails. I would have to say that I was a little intimidated to drive up some of those rocks. That night we went to Denny's for dinner. The hostess seemed a little put out when we requested a spot for 6 adults and 13 kids....but what can we say we're in Utah! (And who can resist Tuesday nights at Denny's, when kids eat free!) Wednesday we weren't quite sure what to do because of the incoming storm. We had the options for Dead Horse Point, and Goblin Valley. So we opted for Goblin Valley. It was freezing when we got there, and snowing when we left. But this is definately a place that we all want to return to. It was awesome in the valley with all the goblins, and we saw some cool caves that we would love to go and explore. But that is for another time. We almost didn't make it home due to the canyon being closed just out of Price, but we waited and had dinner for an hour and then took it pretty slow through the canyon (especially since we were pulling the wheelers.) Brett and Annie Clayson did an awesome job planning the trip for us, and it was wonderful to have the Clarks' motorhome to use throughout the trip. The only downfall of the vacation was all the red dirt that came home in our clothes...it seems to never come out!
